First Card Woven Band

I finished the card woven band I was working on, and couldn't be more pleased with the results.  I really enjoyed card weaving, and I really enjoyed card weaving on the Flip loom.  The hardest part of the project was figuring out how tight to pull the weft to really close the band.  After I took it off the loom, I machined washed and dried then steam pressed.  The mercerized cotton yarn had a nice sheen at the end.

I'm using it as a band to tie together fabric weights I sewed in matching fabric (the yarn in the band is leftover from another weaving project that I needed the matching fabric for...more on that project another day).  I've discovered that I like using weights to hold together fabric and pattern when cutting rather then pinning.  Here are the fabric weights in progress, I made 4 different sizes.  I machine stitched 3/4 of the edge then hand stitched the bag closed after adding dried beans for weight.  You can also see the sewing reference book I'm using to help improve my sewing skills.

I'm really interested in the weights - did you just go for it, or use a pattern? I've got a rotary cutter and mats, but so far haven't used them as I have no way of securing them (although I've been tempted by bags of rice).

And the weaving is lovely too.

Hey Louiz - I just went for it. I knew I needed different weight sizes to accommodate different size pattern pieces and used up the fabric scraps that I had. I didn't measure a thing, just eyeballed the cuts and sewed. Making the weights is a great way to use up scraps and free yourself from pinning! Go for it!
